The idea to build a church was conceived in the early years of the twentieth century, in a location now known as Easy Town. The first pioneer and organizer, Reverend Blackmon K. Donaldson, thus calling the new found house of worship, Donaldson Chapel being organized on July 21, 1912. Led for fifty-three years under the leadership of Pastor Donaldson, the church quickly grew to be a pillar in the community. Pastor Donaldson was called to his eternal home in July 1966, leaving a legacy of God-fearing worshipers to continue his dream.
Shortly thereafter, one Reverend Freddie Williams of Port Allen, LA was called to pastor in April, 1967. Though his tenure was short, it was one of determination and hard work. This allowed the congregation to pay off the church mortgage. God saw fit to call Reverend Williams to his eternal home in 1970.
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:18
On August 4, 1970, a new face claimed the pastoral seat in Donaldson Chapel. Reverend Charles T. Smith was called and elected pastor. Bringing a spiritual growth and numerical growth, Pastor Smith would lead the church to, two remodeling projects-one in 1972 and the other in 1986. Pastor Smith also pastored the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Because of the growth of Shiloh, Pastor Smith intelligently made the decision to serve as pastor at one church. May of 1997, Pastor Smith ended his ministry at Donaldson Chapel.
A familiar face would take the position of pastor at Donaldson Chapel. In July, 1997, Assistant Pastor Tommie N. Gipson, Jr., was elected full-time pastor. In keeping with the legacy of Pastor Smith, Pastor Gipson has continued to shine the light throughout the Easy Town community.
Donaldson Chapel is committed to the community. This is done through a strong support of education, children, youth, discipleship and the worship experience.
